Report: Houston Rockets Attempting To Trade Brent Barry

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Houston Rockets are exploring trade options for 37-year-old sharpshooter Brent Barry.

Houston is reportedly looking at the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, and Oklahoma City Thunder as possible destinations for the veteran.

With the impending signing of big man Pops Mensah-Bonsu, the Rockets suddenly need to free up a roster spot.

A trade to Los Angeles would reunite Barry with the franchise for which he won the 1996 Slam Dunk Contest, and also put him closer to his offseason home in Southern California.

Barry going to Oklahoma City would give the Thunder a viable three-point specialist, something they lacked last season.

The Thunder expect to take large strides next season, and Barry could be an asset off the bench.

It’s not clear what reason Memphis would have for acquiring Barry.

Then again, it’s not clear what direction the Grizzlies are even trying to go in.

Just last month, they inexplicably traded for the dreadful contract of Zach Randolph.

Expect the Rockets to trade Barry this week, before the signing of Mensah-Bonsu, in order to free up the roster spot.

In 54 games last season, Barry averaged just under four points per game, and shot about 37 percent from beyond the arc.
